Arroyo, who landed on the disabled list on June 15 with tendinitis in his right elbow, had an MRI taken last month that showed a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. The 37-year-old appeared to be close to returning after throwing on Friday without difficulty, but a reevaluation had the right-hander change his mind and decide to undergo surgery.
