Originally launched in 2011, the Hublot MP series is where the Nyon-based brand turned to showcase its manufacturing prowess. From an aesthetic and technical point of view, Hublot's various MP models represent some of the most advanced, impressive and 'out of the box' designs the brand has ever come up with. There have been many different Hublot MP models (12 to be exact) over the years and the MP-09 is the most recent iteration, with a new color in the 3D carbon fiber variant released earlier this year at LVMH Watch Week. Now, A 13th MP model has been added to the catalog as part of the latest batch of new releases at the 2023 Fair in Geneva, the Hublot MP-13 Tourbillon Biaxial Retrograde in a bold titanium case, There is a new manufacturing process biaxial tourbillon movement, power reserve indicator,
The Hublot MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde (Ref. 913.NX.1170.RX), with its case in brushed titanium and a blackened center, measures 44 mm in diameter and 16.7 mm thick, representing a new The case, which also offers a familiar shape, visually links it to the rest of Hublot's contemporary collection. While the bezel still features the iconic exposed screw design of the Big Bang series, the 6 o'clock side curves into an opening that wraps around an asymmetrical three-dimensional sapphire crystal that extends to create a two-sided display window for the biaxial tourbillon Bottom (similar to display on existing MP-09 series). The back of the case is closed by a screw-down display case back, while the signature winged crown at 3 o'clock provides access to the movement, and like many other high-concept Hublot models, the new MP-13 is water resistant 30 meters to protect against daily moisture and accidental contact. Additionally, like various Hublot Big Bang watches, the case of the new MP-13 features integrated lugs that connect to a rubber strap and matching titanium deployant clasp.
Although a large portion of the dial of the new Hublot MP-13 Bi-Axial Retrograde Tourbillon is skeletonized to showcase its advanced manufacture movement, its power reserve indicator and bi-retrograde display are prominently displayed on the watch's dial. Time The unique double retrograde display is presented as two arcs along the periphery of the dial, with the minutes on the outermost scale and the hours directly inside it. A pair of centered skeleton hands indicate the current time on two scales, while an off-centre power reserve indicator occupies the upper half of the display and adds small red highlights to the watch’s dial. Extending from the lower half of the face is the biaxial tourbillon,
Powering the Hublot MP-13 Tourbillon Biaxial Retrograde is the new HUB6200 in-house movement. Comprised of 374 components, the Hublot HUB6200 is a 44-jewel, hand-wound movement that runs at 21,600vph (3 Hz) while offering the user a power reserve of 4 days (approximately 96 hours). The biaxial tourbillon on the lower half of the dial makes one revolution per minute on one of its axes and one revolution every thirty seconds on the other. At the same time, the space around the tourbillon is opened up, giving it the appearance of floating as it moves within the case. Additionally, while the minute hand moves steadily from one value to another, the hour hand jumps instantly as it changes, improving the overall legibility of the display. Additionally, to facilitate the setting process, the crown on the MP-13 has only one setting position, advancing the minutes will also automatically advance the hours. Similarly, Hublot also designed the movement to only be set in one direction, thus avoiding accidental damage that may occur when other retrograde watches are accidentally set backwards.
As they represent some of Hublot's most advanced products, all MP models sit at the top end of the brand's catalogue, and the new MP-13 is no exception. The official retail price of the new Hublot MP-13 Bi-Axial Retrograde Tourbillon is $158,000, and while it’s still considerably cheaper than the 3D Carbon version of the MP-09, it’s certainly a pretty expensive timepiece. Also, like all Hublot MP models, the new MP-13 will be produced as a small, limited edition. That said, just as there have been several different versions of the MP-09 produced over the years, I wouldn't be surprised to see other versions of the Hublot MP-13 eventually released in different colors and materials.
